Moving Onward in May

Hello guys!

The apprenticeship is coming to an end and therefore this is my last blog.

Thank you so much for making the past 10 months such an amazing experience!

It was the last month of the school year, which meant a month full of other “last”s as the year drew to a close.

For our last Mi Gente event of the school year, we hosted a taco night. Beans, rice, chicken, and steak fajita with salsa and guac. We also watched Shrek in Spanish (the only right way to watch Shrek; you should try it!) and played a couple of video games.

I have loved getting to lead and participate in Mi Gente this past school year. Next year, I want to continue helping out however I can, in addition to (hopefully and prayerfully) starting up Mi Gente at Richland (Dallas) College, one of the FOCUS community colleges. I hope to be able to use my income as a way to bless the students at Richland and UTD.

We also had our last FNF. For years, the last FNF at UTD has been a time for students to share how God has been working in their lives over the past school year. I loved seeing Chris, Seth, Jadon, and Thomas (all part of my core/small group) go up to share how God worked in their lives. I thought about sharing myself, but decided against it since I knew I'd probably cry for at least 60 seconds of the 90 second sharing limit.

Having said that, I will be delivering my second sermon this Friday (May 31st) around 1:00pm. The topic for this round of sermons is top 3 takeaways from the apprenticeship. I loved sharing and let me know if you guys want to watch it. I can send you a link to the live stream.

Lastly, we had our annual corefa (core facilitator, or small group leader) party, where all the corefas gathered together to celebrate the successes of the year. The corefa party is also a way for us staff to thank all of our student leaders for their commitment. Being a corefa is like having a part-time job, but much more demanding and much more fulfilling at the same time, because you pour so much into the students you're ministering to and leading, on top of balancing school, relationships, hobbies, other organizations, etc. Corefas love it, however, because they are also poured into by the staff just as much as they pour into their own core students. Corefas grow just as much as the core members, and are just as important as staff since they do most of the teaching and outreaching in our community.

What will I be doing after Friday, May 31st? I will be taking the weekend to rest before starting a new position the following Monday as a Technician in Training with EAB (Engineered Air Balance), an HVAC testing and balance company. One of the main reasons why I accepted their offer was because I can also work on getting my PE (Professional Engineering license) in Texas! I am excited to see what God will do in this new chapter of my life.

Thank you again for allowing me to be an apprentice with FOCUS. I’m always a text message or phone call away. Don’t be afraid to reach out whenever you want or need!

Until next time!
